Food Farm
The Food Farm sets out to answer a simple question – ‘where does food come from?’ – and turns it into an amazing journey, full of surprising facts, technological wizardry and revealing discoveries. It’s a story that starts in the farmyard, where you’ll find out the differences between the various breeds of cattle, sheep and goats, moves on to food processing and ends in the kitchen. Along the way you’ll meet farmers, vegetable and fruit growers, butchers and chefs – all of them full of passion for producing great food.
Check out some of these interactive farm exhibits:
- Kids Farmyard – The kids can get a feel for food production at its grass roots in this walk-though, hands-on farm, complete with miniature machinery, silos, sheds and landscaping.
- The Apple Story – Why do we need different kinds of apples? Find out at this display, with demonstrations, podcasts and dwarf apple trees.
- The Hydroponic Truss Tomato Story – see for yourself the amazing tomatoes that grow in nutrient beds, without ever touching soil.
- Livestock in the Round – Get close up and personal with cattle and sheep, and have your questions answered by the farmer.
- Celebrating 100 Years of Wheat Breeding at The University of Sydney – A display of 10 varieties of live wheat plants, from Tall Federation to modern-day Dwarf varieties, across four growth phases.
